Early Childhood

Early Childhood applicants should hold a Bachelor Degree. Applicants must hold a GED and can receive an Associate Credential. However, Adult Learners must understand that it is expected they will receive their Bachelor degree within seven (7) years. Upon completion of their Bachelor Degree, they may apply for a full credential. Those applicants with the Associate credential need to be aware that employment opportunities become more limited with the Associate credential.
Those applicants who hold a Bachelor Degree equivalent, not from the U.S., will submit an official transcript to the Director who will in turn submit it to the American Montessori Society Office of Teacher Education in lieu of the non-U.S. transcript. Candidates whose non-U.S. transcript is determined to be equivalent to a U.S. Bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited U.S. college/university will be awarded the full American Montessori Society credential upon completion of the course.

Applicants who learned English as a second language, will be required to take the computer based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). A total score of 70-71 or better will be required for acceptance. The applicant is responsible for the cost, registration, and completion of the TOEFL.

The applicant, in consultation with Gulf Coast Montessori Teacher Education staff, shall submit the name of the teaching site for the practicum phase one month prior to their practicum phase. The Adult Learner will submit the Practicum Checklist to their administrator to verify the classroom materials, equipment and environment is appropriate for the practicum. The Director reserves the right to approve the practicum site based upon the requirements for both MACTE and AMS. Employment, salary and occupational advancement are not guaranteed by Gulf Coast Montessori Teacher Educational Center.

The GCMTEC Director reserves the right of admission. All Adult Learners who meet the admissions requirements above will be considered for admission. Adult Learners who do not meet all requirements above may audit, for a fee, the academic sessions until all admission requirements are met.

Each Adult Learner will enter into an agreement with Gulf Coast Montessori TEC. This agreement states the course, duration, fees and tuition, refund policy, military service refund and cancellation policies. This signed agreement will be placed in the Adult Learner’s student file along with a financial record of tuition payments. Gulf Coast Montessori Teacher Education Center LLC’s administrative assistant maintains this on-site file. All records and files shall remain private and adhere to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.

The Early Childhood Course does not discriminate against applicants, Adult Learners or employees on the basis of race, sex, religion, creed, national / ethnic origin, handicap, veteran status, age, sexual orientation or political affiliation.
For the current cohort calendar please refer to our calendar of events web-page.
Administrator & Elementary I-II

Those Adult Learners who do not hold a Montessori Early Childhood Credential must participate in the Early Childhood Overview (40 hours) portion of the course. Those applicants who do hold an EC credential are valued participants in this part of the Elementary I-II course and the Director will discuss their role in this continuum.
